The following links are two articles which describe a very different version of history around the holiday of Thanksgiving. I first heard about this version a couple years ago on Free Talk Radio and thought it made a lot of sense.

New Streamlined Sales Tax
I got this following note from Nancy Wood of the Burlington Business Association. My initial feelings regarding the proposed streamlined sales tax is negative as I believe it will be more of a burden to Vermonters and will give up local control to the other collective states that have signed on to it. I will definately be attending and I am very interested to hear it explained further.

Yesterday, Heavenly and I celebrated our 4th anniversary. To celebrate we took most of the day off to spend the day together. We went out to eat at The Orchid, one of our favorite places to eat. As usual we ate more than we should have, as it’s easy to do there as there’s always a great selection and you want to try everything!

What a way to celebrate Independence day, but with a new tax… Am I the only one to see the irony in initiating a new sales tax right before a celebration for an event that started with a sales tax revolt??

Burlington Taxpayer’s Revolt
The Taxypayer’s Revolt was quite successfull. city Hall was packed with people eager to speak. It was one of the longest public forums I’ve seen ranking up there with the smoking ban in private clubs and the water fluoridation speakouts.

H-1B Visas
I recently received the following email. I’m not too familiar with the H-1B guest worker program, but did read the Wikipedia entry of the program and controversy and was a bit surprised at just how strict the program is… how restrictive it is on the workers who come here and how they pay all the taxes we pay without any of the entitlements.

Gas Prices, Price Gouging, and Legislation.
There’s been a lot of talk recently about the rising gas prices and many people look to the local and federal governments to help as many people believe the oil companies are engaging in price gouging.
