There’s been a lot of talk recently about the rising gas prices and many people look to the local and federal governments to help as many people believe the oil companies are engaging in price gouging.
Peter Christ made a speech and held a Q/A session on Why Drug Prohibition Doesn’t Work at UVM today, which was sponsored by Students for Sensible Drug Policy. For those who don’t know him, Peter Christ is a speaker for LEAP (Law Enforcement Against Prohibition – www.leap.cc).
Yesterday, here in Burlington, a new coalition called Immigrants Rights Vermont organized a protest against federal immigration legislation. Comments made by protesters include “no one is illegal,” and “We are deeply committed to ending the exploitation and abuse of immigrant workers who are working hard, paying taxes and contributing to our community,”

On March 16th, it was reported that the VFW Post 7779 in Hyde Park went to battle against to state in regards to the smoking ban extension to private clubs. They held a meeting and voted to reinstate smoking at the club.

At tonight’s city council meeting, during public forum, several people spoke in support of passing a resolution in opposition to the School of the Americas (renamed Western Hemisphere Institute for Security Cooperation in 2001, as part of the National Defense Authorization Act.).
