At tonight’s city council meeting, the Department of Health started early conversations with the city to replace the State Hospital in Waterbury with a proposed facility at FAHC.
I don’t see a problem with the proposal personally. However, I believe the people being affected by the decision should have a say regarding what happens to public land in their community. I have heard the issues of danger to citizens, parking, as well as usage of city services are most important and need to be addressed. The city should proceed slowly and carefully to avoid any major citizen outcry. I would like to see some plan to address the parking issue, a commitment by the state to make payments in lieu of taxes for city services usage and general acceptance by the surrounding community for the project before going ahead.
